2011 has been seminal in the development of permaculture on the Gold Coast, NSW, Australia. The incorporation of Gold Coast Permaculture (GCP) early in the year has seen the organisation and the concept become very much integrated into the Gold Coast community sector. Some of the sector we have cooperation with are:
- Employment Plus, the employment arm of the Salvation Army
- The Smith Family provides contact with schools and organisations that wish to create gardens
- The Department of Corrective Services
- Federation House who are working with individuals who have become very marginalised
- We work with local government and other not-for-profit groups.
We are also blessed to have many individual volunteers who have embraced the project.

Our in-house teachers made a sterling start to the Gold Coast City Council-sponsored Active and Healthy Programme on Saturday 23 July, with two workshops taking place at Gold Coast Permaculture’s (GCP) 270 Ferry Rd Southport headquarters. A total of 36 participants in the workshops arrived, a number far surpassing our more modest expectations. It was a wonderful turnout by the community with the age spectrum ranging from around 23 up to approximately 80 years of age. The level of organisation was superb and we must again thank Fernando, Vanessa (who also provided cakes, tea and life support) and Sylvia for this. Thanks also to Cynthia for her labouring in the lead up to the workshops.

National Permaculture Day Workshop Presentation at
Three Worlds Community Garden, Mermaid Beach, Gold Coast
National Permaculture Day, on May 1, saw an amazing turnout of over 230 people, a restaurant serving organic food and non-stop presentations on everything from food creation to soil creation at the Three Worlds Community Garden at Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast. It was a hugely successful community event.
