The Ghana Permaculture Nwodua Tree Nursery was created in 2007, as a means of community income and to fight desertification, erosion, and diversion of water flow by roads, through reforestation. A collaborative effort of youth, women, and men founded the community nursery, and all members of the community reap the success of the profit as well as the natural environment benefits of tree planting. The nursery started as a small production and soon blossomed into something larger, achieving the current production of over 96,000 seedlings per year.

On the 1st August 2011 the Permaculture Network Ghana undertook a project in collaboration with Harvesters Mission at Alhassan Akuraa, which includes a food forest establishment, nursery establishment, paddock systems, soil treatment and the likes.
Alhassan Akuraa is a village located in the Brong Ahafo region and it shares the boundary with the northern Black Volta region. It has a population of about five hundred. Of the five hundred, 50% are into fishing, 40% farming and the remaining 10% other trades.

The Ghanian branch of the Australian Edge 5 Permaculture company, in partnership with the permaculture network in Ghana, has, since the year 2006, been supporting indigenous tree seed collection, communities tree nursery and forestation, tree plantings in schools and planting trees along rivers in Ghana.

In the year 2004, Kristo Buase Monastery invited Greg Knibbs from Australia to teach at the monastery in the Techiman District in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana. It is situated in the transition area between the Forest zone in the south of the country and the Savannah zone in the north. One of the most dominating landscape features of this area is the enormous sandstone rock outcrops (called ‘inselbergs’). Greg came for the purpose of running the first Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) course in Ghana. This initial course was for farm workers and the monks. A second course was conducted for the rest of the farm workers and some people from nearby communities. Paul Yeboah, the farm manager at that time, helped Greg Knibbs in the translation of the English language to Akan language for the course and was valuable in lecturing on local farming systems.
