"Judson"...I'm curious about where you got your information about DDT in the U.S. I just got rid of a bottle of bug spray that a houseguest of mine bought last summer. DDT was clearly listed on the ingredient list. I can't imagine that a guy like Warren would fabricate such a thing as you suggest. Warren...keep on nurturing, teaching and writing. I look forward to reading more of your beautiful work.

American companies haven't manufactured DDT in at least 15 years. It was banned from use in 1973 (about 27 years ago). That's one old bottle of DDT. Or could it be that the 'American Chemical Company' mentioned in this slanted piece just was really a fabrication? But that's okay, as long as you agree with the article, right?

Thanks for the story Warren, it's both sad and beautiful. It's so sad that big companies take the products that are banned in the western world and dump them in third world countries. Good thing there's people like you out there accomplishing epic stuff.

See this article: http://permaculture.org.au/2008/08/19/developed/
I see the author use the words “pattern languages”. I was happy to learn about the originator of “A Pattern Language” from http://permacultureprinciples.com/flower_building.php just before Xmas, and I read his fantastic book “The Phenomenon of Life” during my holidays. It really made me see how totally life destroying our western rationalistisc mecanistic modernism is, destroying our architecture and society. This week I started reading the ground breaking book “A Pattern Language” itself, and every page is an eye opener. Next I look forward to read “The timeless way of building”. I’m so happy to know that very important movements like New Urbanism and Permaculture have integrated the greate wisdom collected by Christopher Alexander in their teaching. We just have to make people in the rest of the world to understand that our culture has failed almost complitely.

The story reminded me of something Barry Brailsford would put out. You have a knack for story telling just like he does. Good work Warren, in Portugal where I teach a lot the bugger bug is Acacia trees, wattles or Tazzy Blackwoods, that become peoples best friend by the end. I encounter the western syndrome everywhere I go as well- Malaysia it was big, Singapore is the west, India wow with the plastic. Its a good reminder for us in the west to forge a new culture so that this western syndrome can latch onto a regenerative culture.

I am so moved and so glad that I read this post. In addition to just being beside myself with joy at your wonderful effort, Warren, I am also feeling that this all comes down to trusting the earth. We must trust the earth to be doing the best job it can to promote life, and trust ourselves to be doing the best job we can as well(even though it often doesn't seem it). Trust the weeds, trust the bugger-bug, and trust each other. Then, with trust comes an ability to suspend our fear and find answers that make sense with our hearts. And then, this trust- inspired synchronicity with the earth and each other will allow us to find and effect actions that promote life as well. Excellent story, excellent job!

Thank you, Warren Brush, for this revealing example of permaculture. This connection with the earth has been lost or not developed in my western world, I am learning. Your story is a positive and compelling lesson I want to share.

"Let's go ask the bugger-bug" - I love it!! Absolutely brilliant stuff! Terrifying, as well, that the AgriChem companies are not being held to account for what they are doing.
Great work!
