Emission Control

Catching and containing all emission, bar aviation. To have our big industry power stations, big coal burners, all household smoke stacks. Catching and recycling all emissions through capping all smoke outlets and sucking all emissions through water and air treatment plants. Its not rocket science, but a simple way to catch, contain and re-burn and recycle. Low pressure water spraying to turn emissions into sludge, to then dry and re-burn. Small water and air treatment to attach to chimneys, also made to fit all smoke outlets - currently working on designs for motor vehicles.
Working with all existing products and materials, that are available now. Materials that are put together as a solution to live with what we have, and clean our dirty airways.

Have a look at 'The Last Oil Shock' by David Strachan to get an idea of just how much energy we are consuming worldwide, to put this into perspective. It gives an idea of how quickly each nation must develop alternatives - too little time, unless ALL resources go into sustainables now. This source of energy is good if it does not cause more CO2 or methane in its production. The temperature of the earths atmosphere has gone up already by 1 degree (5 degrees is enough to cause a 95% mass extinction). Evacuations are already happening because of sea-level rises, so 'clean' energy is the only sane way forward, if we are to survive beyond another couple of generations.
Obviously, hydrogen & bio-fuels are creating as much damage as fossil fuels & are simply unfeasible to meet our current energy 'demands' (if we are to eat, that is). In a choice between running cars & feeding people, the cars should not win (western motorsts ARE taking precedence, over feeding the poor, preserving rain-forests (our lungs), using good agri-land for food production and the environment. Insane, seeing as we are racing into an inescapable ecological melt-down.
Going 100% local for food, all energy & other needs & by drastically cutting our energy demands are the only sustainable ways for us all to live. Stopping our consuming habits, & changing how we understand ourselves to be 'valuable'& our lives 'meaningful' from the ground-up is crucial. Governments are too scared to do it:too vote obsessed, made up of people too greedy & susceptible to corruption. Look at any government's official answers to peak oil & energy use & you see their arses in the air, their heads in the sand. Or they are lying point-blank. Is there a SINGLE US politician not in the pocket of a corporation?
Great energy idea - love to see all the figures: for all the real costs.

Ad "but is it really renewable": Yes and no. On the one hand, the Earth's interior is cooling off gradually, and such energy harvesting sort-of accelerates the process, but any attempt to discuss the relevance of this issue without taking a quantitative look first (i.e. what proportions of energy flows are we talking about) is a bit pointless here. The really interesting question is: if we could and did switch over all of our electricity generation to geothermal, by how much would this (regionally) accelerate Earth's cooling process?

The other issue is: Earth heats itself, due to alpha decay of long-lived radioactive isotopes, mostly U-238, some Th-232. So, essentially, geothermal power taps not just the "primordial heat" that was present when the earth initially formed - the energy source is that heat plus heat from the on-going decay of Uranium and Thorium.

Seems like this may cause unforseen damage to the earth in time if it becomes popular. A cooling of the earths core and possible eruptions if the drilling hits magma chambers or cracks that reach some. See Supervolcano :+)

Is geothermal power really a "renewable" energy source, or is it just tapping into a vast storehouse of heat? Does it get replenished at all?

Any, "renewable" is just a word - it's still great that people are starting to develop it as a non-polluting source of energy.
